I live like there is no tomorrow, love as if I do not know heartache, dream as if i have not known failure, embraced the world as if it embraced me back, and I write as if I will die without words.
I am Ayien.

Metamorphosis

It was one quiet summer night, when a beautiful butterfly laid its eggs on a misty leaf. There were hundreds of eggs and Kulay was among them.

Kulay is a tiny egg. She is a happy egg. She was so happy being an egg that she told her tiny siblings: "I want to stay as an egg forever. It is cozy in here and I feel so great! I want to stay an egg forever."

But as the days past by, Kulay felt that she is becoming bigger and bigger. She felt really scared. She felt that she is becoming too big for an egg that she might not fit on the leaf anymore. Kulay does not want to grow any bigger. She wants to be an egg forever.

Despite Kulay's cries and wishes, she became too big for the leaf. She is no longer an egg. She looks very different now. She looked like a worm but with spikes all over her body. She heard somebody call her a caterpillar.

As a caterpillar, she felt very hungry. All she wanted to do was eat, eat, and eat. At first Kulay felt scared of the change but as days passed by, Kulay enjoyed being a caterpillar. She was so happy being a caterpillar that she liked to stay as such forever.

But like when she was an egg, Kulay felt something different. She felt very lazy and sleepy. Kulay did not want the change, and again felt very scared that it was happening. She cried all day saying, I want to stay as a caterpillar!

But like when she was an egg, Kulay felt something happen. She did not know what it was but all of a sudden she found herself spinning a very fine thread. What shall I do with this thread, she asked herself. She mindlessly spun the thread until she formed a pouch. Kulay stayed inside that silk pouch.

She felt like an egg again. And like when she was an egg and a caterpillar, she wished to stay on this state forever. But like when she was an egg and a caterpillar, something weird happened.

All of a sudden she felt too big for her pouch already and a strong urge to get out of the silk cocoon engulfing her. With fear, excitement and uncertainty she began to squeeze her way out of her cocoon.

It was a very bright world. The warm sun is touching her face. She saw a bed of multicolored flowers. Kulay felt so happy. She spread her wings and glided to the flowers.

Kulay was so beautiful. The flowers loved her because she made them more beautiful. Kulay told herself:

"I'm glad I did not stay as an egg, a caterpillar, or a a pupa. I'm glad that I went through each changing phase - though I was scared and uncertain - or else I will not be the beautiful butterfly that I am now. Change is good."
